Monolithic Refractories Ltd also run a successful program of maintenance for torpedoes at the Port Talbot Works. The Torpedoes are used to transport molten iron from the Blast Furnaces to other areas of the Steel Works and require extensive protection from heat loss and leakage.
The old lining is cut out by Monolithic Refractories Ltd using mobile plant and then a brick lining is installed. Once the brickwork is complete, a layer of refractory material is sprayed onto the the lining and the exterior of the torpedo is painted.
